A Partnership of Legal Education Workshops for Superintendents, School Administrators, Students and Faculty, and Others in the Field of Education

Sponsored By:

UC Davis School of Education and Kronick Education Law Department

Presenters:

Tom Timar, Professor at UC Davis School of Education

Workshop Overview:

Kronick education law attorneys will explain the rights of students in California public schools as they relate to various constitutional rights.  In particular, we will explore the limits of free speech in schools as balanced against maintaining order and preventing interference with the rights and safety of others.  In the context of bullying and harassment, we will explore the protections that should be provided to special categories of students, such as LGBT students and students with particular religious beliefs and practices. We will encourage participants to discuss the practical implications of balancing competing rights in the school setting and promoting sensitivity to diverse populations.

Who Should Attend:

Superintendents and School and County Office of Education Administrators.  UC Davis Grad Students and Faculty in the Field of Education are also encouraged to attend.
