Increased legislation, regulation, and case law are creating a complicated, tangled web of requirements for employers when managing employee protected leave (e.g., FMLA, CFRA). One of the more complex and challenging leave scenarios, especially for small public agencies, is an employee’s request for intermittent leave. How does a small public agency balance the work demands and service obligations of the organization with the rights and protections afforded an employee on intermittent protected leave? While the situations may be complex and often challenging, the good news is that employers do have alternatives and options. This interactive session combines practitioner perspective and legal expertise to navigate leave law provisions and intricacies with a how-to focus. You’ll learn how protected leave is defined, how to address intermittent leave requests, what your strategies and options are, and how to communicate with the employee.
