Every Child Counts Symposium (January 15 - 17, 2014)

KMTG Presenters:

The ever-expanding market of available assistive technologies has created a large increase in parent requests for AT devices and services for students with disabilities.  This session will focus on AT and IDEA requirements for a FAPE, as well as AT and equal access issues under Section 504. It will also include a tutorial on responding to parent requests for AT devices and services, and the importance of identifying AT needs versus wants. Attendees will learn how to make informed and individualized decisions regarding the provision of AT devices and services, and what factors to onsider when determining whether the LEA is legally bound to provide AT devices at both school and home. Permissible clauses that may be included in an AT use agreement will be discussed. We will also review the most recent legal decisions and OSEP opinions on AT and the provision of a FAPE. We will conclude the session with a fun and interactive AT quiz.
