30th Annual 2021 Environmental Law Conference at Yosemite

Kronick is pleased to again sponsor the California Lawyer Association’s Environmental Law Conference at Yosemite on October 14-17, 2021.

Shareholder Holly Roberson is a member of the executive committee of the Environmental Law Section of the California Lawyers Association. She has served as a member of the Environmental Law Section’s legislative committee since 2012 and has also spoken at several of the Section’s conferences and webinars on topics including environmental justice and community engagement. Ms. Roberson also serves as a mentor for the Section’s Environmental Law Diversity Inclusion fellowship program.

On October 16th, Ms. Roberson will be moderating the panel “Protecting Sacred Ground: How to Identify and Avoid Culturally Sensitive Sites” which will discuss the shortcomings of existing environmental, CEQA, planning, and land use laws that fail to adequately protect California Native American burial sites and sacred sites. The panel will explore how to identify and avoid these sites as early as possible in the development process. This is a solution-oriented panel to identify needed reforms in the law, and process improvements, drawing from personal experience, case studies, recent legislation, and case law. This panel will use the Berkeley Shellmound case as a case study, then expand into the broader legal and policy issues to educate all CEQA, Land Use, Indigenous Law and Development practitioners on best practices and creative solutions. Panelists include Tribal Chair Corrina Gould, Chair and Spokesperson, Confederated Villages of Lisjan/Ohlone and Co-Founder/Co-Director of the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust; Raymond Cardozo, Partner at Reed Smith; Peter Prows, Partner at Briscoe Iverson and Michelle LaPena, Member of the Pit River Tribe and Partner at Rosette, LLP.

The Environmental Law Section furthers the knowledge of members in the fields of law affecting the environment and environmental regulatory law. Substantive areas and topics include Air, litigation, energy, waste management, natural resources, water, land use, toxics, and CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act).
