State Water Board Names Delta Watermaster

The State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) has named attorney Craig M. Wilson to serve in the newly created position of Delta Watermaster.

The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Reform Act of 2009, specifically Water Code section 85230, requires the State Water Board to appoint a “Delta Watermaster” and to delegate authority to the Delta Watermaster, including authority to require monitoring and reporting, and to take enforcement actions. The State Water Board website indicates that the Delta Watermaster will act with a high degree of independence within the Delta to implement and enforce existing water rights laws and water permits, licenses, and decisions.
