Kronick Employees Team Up For 20th Annual Doggy Dash

Sacramento | June 14, 2013

Animal enthusiasts from Kronick gathered with their canine companions at William Land Park on June 8 for the 20th annual Doggy Dash and Bark at the Park Festival.  More than 20 employees/friends/family members participated in the annual dog-themed walk, which raises funds for animals sheltered at the Sacramento SPCA.  It’s an event near and dear to many Kronick employees, as well as animal lovers throughout the Sacramento region.

“It is a wonderful event, one I personally look forward to every year,” said Team Captain Corrie Erickson, an associate in the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice.  “This year was especially rewarding because as a firm we collectively raised $2735 and ended up as the sixth place fundraising team.”

In addition to direct donations from Kronick employees and their friends and family, Meghan Covert Russell, an associate in the firm’s Education Law Practice, baked doggy biscuits for friends and colleagues to help raise funds.  ”I was so excited to participate in my first Doggy Dash and I love to bake so I thought homemade doggy biscuits would be perfect for this event.  They turned out to be a hit!”

The Bark in the Park Festival, immediately following the Doggy Dash, featured demonstrations by the Sacramento Police K9 Unit, Sacramento Flyball, and the Disc Dogs of the Golden Gate, as well as several contests, including "Pup Show" awards for best costume, ugliest dog, most enthusiastic wag, best smile, best kisser, and best tricks, among others.

Corrie Erickson’s dog, a terrier mix named Violet who Corrie adopted two years ago, competed in the Most Enthusiastic Wag, while co-worker Catherine Nystrom’s dog, Lily the yellow lab, participated in the Best Smile competition.

Unfortunately, due to the extreme heat, the much anticipated Pug Races and the Running of the Pugs were cancelled.

We look forward to participating next year in the 21st annual Sacramento SPCA Doggy Dash.
