Speaking Engagement:

The Rising Interest in Interest

Event Information

Friday, October 13

Marriott Marquis, Washington, D.C.

Organized By:

The National Creditors Bar Association (NARCA)

Program Overview:

Kronick Shareholder June Coleman will participate in a panel discussion at NARCA's 2017 Fall Conference in Washington, D.C. The panel will discuss how interest has become a hot button issue. Most recently, courts have examined how to reference interest and how not to reference interest in letters to consumers. Is it illegal to state “Interest: 0.00” in letters? Some of these recent decisions raise waiver issues and whether interest exists in the future. The speakers will discuss a disturbing trend of questioning whether interest continues to accrue and what conduct by the creditor may act to waive interest for subsequent creditors or collection attorneys. Assuming a court awards a judgment, does the interest rate of the contract or the judgment interest rate apply? This session will help to demystify the rising interest in interest.
