Presentation Overview:

Attendees in this session will be provided with tips and procedures for avoiding and resolving common situations districts and school staff often face when trying to comply with legal requirements in the real-world setting. How do you ensure proper and defensible documentation and record keeping requirements? What do you do when attempts to comply with parent requests come back to haunt you? How should you best handle emergency behavior incidents for students with and without Behavior Support Plans? What do you do with staff difficulities? When should the district utilize the SARB procedures for students with special needs? When should the district assess in light of the Forrest Grove and Compton USD v. Addison decisions? When should the district file for due process? This presentation will provide a discussion of these important questions, and also provide a practical framework for properly responding to these types of difficult circumstances.
