Do you need to keep that email? For how long? Do you need to hand it over if someone asks for it? Are there any particular requirements for special education? This presentation will provide participants with an overview of document retention and disclosure requirements. Participants will learn best practices for how to maintain and when to destroy documents. Attendees will also learn when they need to disclose documents, to whom, and proper procedures for disclosures. The presentation will also highlight particular issues faced when using email or other electronic communication devices. Attendees will learn the requirements for document retention and disclosure pursuant to the laws and regulations, Education Code, Public Records Act, state and federal regulations, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and IDEA.
