Vance Piggott, Senior Counsel

Vance represents public and private sector entities in employment litigation, commercial litigation, and labor matters. He advises public agency clients in all matters, including wage and hour issues, labor and collective bargaining issues. Vance also serves as lead negotiator for public sector clients during collective bargaining and “meet and confers.” Before joining Kronick, he represented public employees and their unions, mostly peace officers, in a variety of areas including disciplinary hearings, unfair practice charges, collective bargaining, and grievance procedures. Vance also has extensive experience advising clients on matters of corporate governance and representing individuals in administrative hearings involving disputes over CalPERS retirement benefits.

LEGAL EXPERIENCE

Vance provides a variety of legal services for both public and private sector clients, including in-depth legal research and analysis, compliance with California wage and hour laws, and litigation-related support. His experience includes, but is not limited to:

  • Participating in all stages of employee investigation and discipline procedure throughout northern California
  • Negotiating, interpreting, and enforcing collective bargaining agreements
  • Representing organizations in impasse and fact-finding proceedings
  • Representing organizations in unfair labor practice charges in front of the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB)
  • Forming corporations and unincorporated associations including mutual benefit and public benefit organizations
  • Advising clients on matters of corporate governance and procedure
  • Representing organizations at all stages of grievance procedures, including arbitrations
  • Advising clients on a wide variety of issues surrounding public employee pension benefits and representing parties in disputes with public employee pension systems
  • Advising clients and handling disputes arising under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
  • Representing clients in administrative proceedings before the Office of Administrative Hearings, State Personnel Board, Department of Energy, Federal Labor Relations Authority, Personnel Boards, PERB
  • Speaking engagements on a variety of issues including public employee retirement issues, FLSA, and corporate governance.
